About Daniel Bell
I am the owner of Daniel Bell Construction. I've been designing and building things as long as I can remember, from driftwood forts on the beaches of Lopez Island, Washington, to motorized LEGO creations with my Big Brother, to go carts and box cars in Cub Scouts. I was in junior high when I enrolled in my first shop class and have been hooked ever since.
By the time I was a senior in high school, I knew I wanted to teach, and started my first business to pay for tools and save for college. I graduated from high school in Brea, California with honors and an ROP award for "outstanding woodshop student".
Working nearly full time in construction, I completed an Associates Degree at Fullerton College. There I also obtained several certificates in the field of construction. I transferred to Cal State University Los Angeles, where I was able to design a program focused on teaching and construction. I graduated with Honors and a BS in Industrial Technology. I continued my education with the University of Alabama Birmingham where I complete a Masters of Engineering in Construction Project Management. I also have several certificates from various colleges for my OSHA authorization to teach OSHA 10 and 30 certification courses.
I am currently a college teacher and licensed contractor specializing in finish carpentry and construction. I have participated in the construction of several homes from the ground up and understand all phases of construction. I have also participated in construction projects in the Northwest, Southwest and Southeast United States, gaining a broad understanding of different construction methods and materials. I enjoy the challenges and rewards of bringing a project to fruition. I consider construction a valuable tool for everyone, as it teaches problem solving, sequencing and spatial skills as well as empowering informed consumers.
When I'm not working, I like to be outside, practicing photography, kayaking, hiking, bicycling and traveling. I have visited every state in the U.S. and many of our National Parks. I enjoy reading about business concepts and keeping up to date with new construction tools and techniques. When possible, I like to spend time in my shop designing and building fine furniture. I love the smell of fresh sawdust and the fit of a perfect dovetail joint!
